This is the beginning of a … compositional process? spiritual exercise? frivolous pursuit? We’re not sure, other than we are motivated to explore the work of John Cage by creating our own work in his shadow.
John Russell comes to Imaginary John Cage by way of a November evening in 2001, when he heard Imaginary Landscape No. 4 performed by Musica Nova at the Eastman School of Music. It was his first exposure to John Cage and it has haunted him ever since. Mr. Russell is the composer of the Imaginary John Cage series, though he would be an assemblage of unfulfilled dreams & half-baked ideas if not for the skills of
David Baker, who understands, among other things, avant-garde music, records, 16mm film, video games, and that the successor to irony is sincerity. Mr. Baker is the chief performer & technology officer of the Imaginary John Cage series.
